An Elegant Combination of White-Green

There is something special at Soeroso Soemoprawiro's garden, a two-leaf sansevieria with white hue on the center of the leaves and green on the leaves margin. It is indeed looked like masoniana mutation, the only difference is in the leaves in which masoniana has thick leaves while it has thin leaves. It is only one variant amid many other new variants of mother in law's tongue, the result of hobbyists' quest. Handi in Tangerang also succeeded in obtaining S. erythrae which leaves formation is terrace like resembling stairs seen from above. He also had a new hybrid of brownish cylindrica from Thailand. Yonder in Central Java, Aris Andi started to distribute new crossings of sansevieria from Thailand which he named katana. Soejatno Soebekti also possessed a sansevieria kanlayensis, the crossing result of S. balyii with S. trifasciata.
New variants are also emerging at a contest which was held by Trubus in the early March 2008. Sansevieria black rose belonged to Tangerang Sansevieria Club is among of them. In fact, S. cylindrica with short stem has successfully become the champion. New variants were also found in Boen Soediono's place in Jakarta, a sansevieria cylindrica hybrid with curved leaves to many directions and most of the canals are open. Hobbyists will never be satisfied to hunt new variants of mother in law's tongue.
